NYMEX March crude increases $2.71/b as front of curve tightens

New York-New York Mercantile Exchange March crude futures settled $2.71 higher at $43.55/barrel January 21, as the front of the crude curve strengthened, extending gains from the prior day's stronger than expected February contract expiration.The NYMEX March/April crude spread settled at minus $2/b, from minus $3.41/b the prior day. The April/May spread firmed as well to minus $1.57/b after settling the prior day at minus $2.31/b. The curve strengthened out to October 2010.
