Iraq politician slams role of foreigners in development

Amman, Jordan-A member of Iraq’s main Sunni Muslim bloc in parliament, the Tawafuq Party, January 5 attacked the government for offering foreign oil companies a role in developing nearly all of the country’s crude oil reserves and insisted Iraqi oil be developed by a national oil company. “In the last few months the ministry of oil, supported by decisions from the cabinet, granted on a no-bid basis contracts to foreign companies to produce oil in Iraq, and is trying to auction most of Iraq’s oil and gas fields,” said Mohammed al-Dayani in a statement on behalf of the Tawafuq Party.
