Panel takes testimony on Gulf well defects

Kenner, Louisiana-A list of 20 well problems aboard the Deepwater Horizon rig leading up to the April 20 explosion in the Gulf of Mexico was released July 20 by a US Coast Guard and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement joint panel. But the panel members-who were prepared to question key BP personnel aboard the rig about the anomalies--got little satisfaction from the BP witnesses who backed out of testimony, were not aboard April 20, or were not qualified to answer questions about the problems aboard the rig. They did, however, learn of problems with the blowout preventer days before the explosion, and received information on the plan for the well’s completion.
