Petrobras, Galp to make biodiesel from palm oil

Rio de Janeiro-Brazil's Petrobras said May 3 it plans to invest $530 million with Portugal's Galp Energia through the end of 2018 to make biodiesel for the European market using palm oil grown in Brazil. Under the plan, the companies will build a $240 million biodiesel plant in Portugal to produce as much as 250,000 mt of the fuel for sale primarily there and in neighboring Spain, Petrobras said in a statement. The plant is expected to start operations in 2015.
