Petrobras taps groups to design subsalt LNG plant

Rio de Janeiro-Brazilian state-led Petrobras and its partners in the subsalt fields in Brazil, chose three groups to design a floating LNG plant to allow collection and transport of gas from the fields. Italy's Saipem, a Swiss-Japanese group made up of SBM and Chiyoda and a French- Japanese team made up of Technip, JGC and Modec, have been asked to develop a design for a 14 million cu m/d LNG plant to operate about 320 km off Brazil's coast by December 2010, Petrobras natural gas chief Maria das Gracas Foster told reporters in Rio de Janeiro.
