Indian RIL's quarterly profit declines 9.4%

New Delhi-Indian oil and petrochemicals major Reliance Industries Limited posted a 9.4% fall in net profit for the first quarter of calendar 2009 due to the economic slowdown, which has squeezed global demand for petroleum products.Privately owned RIL's net profit for the quarter declined to Rupees 35.46 billion ($710 million), from Rupees 39.12 billion in the same period a year earlier, the company reported April 23. Turnover for the January-March period-the fourth quarter of the company's 2008-2009 fiscal year-declined 24% to Rupees 283.62 billion, from Rupees 372.86 billion in 2007-2008.
