Analysts tout Diamond as rig bid winner

Houston-Analysts September 29 claimed US-based contract driller Diamond Offshore is the likely winner of a second speculative but distressed deepwater rig, and said they were surprised by the higher bid than was offered for the first one three months ago. Citing market sources, analysts said Diamond was the low bidder in a recent auction for the ultra-deepwater semisubmersible PetroRig II with a reported $490 million bid.
