EPA issues rule 'tailoring' Clean Air Act on GHGs

Washington-The US Environmental Protection Agency has moved to make the Clean Air Act more focused on regulating greenhouse gas emissions from large stationary sources. The proposed rule to "tailor" the law was published October 27 in the Federal Register. Under the Act's provisions aimed at preventing the significant deterioration of air quality resulting from new or modified facilities such as refineries or power plants, the agency is required to control sources that emit conventional air pollutants in amounts exceeding 100 or 250 tons/year, depending on the source.
