Product prices rally on California refinery fire

Houston-US West Coast spot product price differentials rallied September 25 on news that Tesoro had scaled back production because of a fire at its 100,000 b/d Wilmington, California, refinery. Prompt Los Angeles CARBOB was sold as high as 41 cents/gal over the New York Mercantile Exchange October RBOB contract before slipping slightly at the end of the day, last offered at 39.50 cents/gal over. The prior day CARBOB was assessed by Platts at 20.50 cents/gal over the screen.
