Luanda-Egypt is set to award five new blocks within weeks and is preparing to launch a new bid round for acreage in the Western Desert, which officials hope will make up for declines from the country's more traditional oil-producing areas. Egypt hopes to find more oil from the Western Desert blocks, Egyptian oil ministry undersecretary Shamel Hamdy said in an interview in the Angolan capital of Luanda, where he attended the OPEC meeting this week as an observer.
