Singapore-Trading in Asia’s spot oil markets bounced back strongly in January compared with December, but activity remained subdued relative to year-ago levels, according to an analysis of reported oil trades over the month. Interest in trading crude oil partials and financially settled derivatives in refined oil products was particularly strong compared with December. Activity in January extended a slow recovery in trading volumes that has been under way since last September, when business in Asia slumped dramatically as credit markets tightened around the world, and excessive price volatility forced many smaller companies to the sidelines.
