PetroVietnam plans bioethanol at Dung Quat

Singapore-State-owned PetroVietnam is planning a bioethanol project at its 6.5 million mt/year (130,000 b/d) Dung Quat refining complex in Quang Ngai province, a senior official at the company's research and development arm said this week. The project is expected to have a capacity to produce 100 million liters/year (about 1,723 b/d) of ethanol from 220,000 mt/year of cassava feedstock, Phan Minh Quoc Binh, director of PetroVietnam's R&D center, told a downstream conference in Kuala Lumpur October 15. The ethanol will be spiked into gasoline from the Dung Quat refinery, which will help raise the product's RON from the current 92, Phan said.
