New York-US refiner losses seen in the third quarter will spill over into the fourth quarter, with low margins expected well into 2010 and beyond, according to analysts. "The investment case for refining will now rest on a financial death match amongst players, until either demand recovers, which we doubt, at least to the extent that capacity overhang is cleared, or capacity is shut," said Deutsche Bank analyst Paul Sankey in a report.
