摘要

Washington-Seventy Republicans in the US House of Representatives wrote President Barack Obama February 4 to urge his administration to leave federal offshore waters open to oil and gas development rather than attempt to reinstate bans on drilling that ended last year. The Republicans, including Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio, recalled their party’s success during last year’s election campaign in forcing House and Senate Democratic leaders to let lapse a decades-long congressional moratorium on drilling on most of the Outer Continental Shelf outside of the Gulf of Mexico. They also claimed that more offshore development would meet Obama’s objective of saving or creating jobs.
