US cellulose fuel goal ‘unlikely’ to be hit

New York—It is “unlikely” new US federal targets for cellulosic biofuels use next year will be met, said Brent Erickson, executive vice president of biotech group BIO during a telephone briefing March 31.Erickson said the current economic downturn has “slowed” the cellulosic industry and that the 100 million gal/year target for 2010 cellulosic biofuel use in the Renewable Fuel Standard will probably not be met. That is the first year the RFS has a cellulosic biofuel target.
