UK's Gulf Keystone makes new Kurdistan oil discovery

Dubai-The UK's Gulf Keystone Petroleum has made an oil and natural gas discovery in the upper portions of the Triassic section of the Shaikan-1 exploration well in Iraq's Kurdistan region, the company said October 6. The Shaikan-1 well is located in the Shaikan block, near the city of Duhok, approximately 85 km northwest of the Kurdish capital Erbil. The company said a short limited flow test between 2,402 meters and 2,483 meters resulted in crude with a gravity of 40 API with flow rates up to 2,000 b/d and associated gas at rates up to 2,000 Mcf/d.
