UK's Gulf Keystone sees 'encouraging' Kurdish well

Dubai-UK upstream junior Gulf Keystone said June 24 the Shaikan-1 exploration well in Iraq's northern Kurdistan region had shown encouraging shallow oil zones and drilling was going well despite encountering difficult geological zones. The Shaikan-1 well was spudded April 27 with a planned total depth of 3,000-3,500 meters, with the range reflecting the underex-plored nature of the area and the lack of nearby correlation wells, Gulf Keystone said.
