Anadarko unveils Heidelberg find in Gulf

Houston-Proving industry continues to take a long view of oil exploration even in the face of sagging crude oil prices, a group led by Anadarko Petroleum revealed a discovery February 2 in the deepwater Green Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico. The find, Heidelberg, is in 5,000 feet of water and so far has been drilled to 28,500 feet total depth. The well, at GC 859, is located in the Middle Miocene geological horizon in a section of the Gulf that showcases numerous notable fields, including Anadarko’s own Caesar and Tonga discoveries being developed in tandem.
