TransCanada begins Alaska gas pipe permit process

Washington-TransCanada says it is ready to take the preliminary steps toward securing the required federal certificate to build a 1,700 mile natural gas pipeline system from northern Alaska to the Lower 48 states.Nearly eight months after the Alaska Legislature gave TransCanada the green light to pursue the $30 billion pipeline project, Tran-sCanada on April 23 requested permission from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to start FERC's "prefiling process."
