Seoul-Korea Electric Power Corporation, the biggest customer of state-owned Korea Gas Corporation, slashed its LNG purchases by 34% in the first quarter due to sagging power demand and high LNG prices, the company said April 16.The state-owned power monopoly bought 1.79 million mt of LNG in the first three months of the year, compared with 2.71 million mt in the same period of 2008. But its bill for LNG rose over 30% in the first quarter due to a weaker won, which fell about 9.5% against the US dollar in the period.
