US to enforce MARPOL provisions on ship pollution

Washington—A bill requiring US agencies to enforce international vessel emissions standards based on provisions of the MARPOL Convention is now law. Meanwhile, a bill is pending in the US Senate that would impose a stringent sulfur content level for bunker fuel five years in advance of an identical MARPOL standard.
