Japan utilities’ January oil consumption soars 78%

Tokyo—Japanese power companies consumed a total of 2.53 million kiloliters (15.91 million barrels) of crude and fuel oil in January, up 78.1% year on year as demand for electricity from industry rose and operating rates at nuclear and hydropower stations fell, according to data released February 15 by the Feder-ation of Electric Power Companies.
