Shell Canada shelves plan for new refinery

Houston—Shell Canada said July 8 it will not build a planned 150,000-250,000 b/d heavy oil refinery in Sarnia, Ontario. The company, in a statement, cited “project execution environment, market conditions and the current inflationary pressures across the oil and gas industry” as the reasons it decided not to advance the project, which would have processed heavy crude from the Alberta oil sands.
