New Delhi-India is unable to cut gasoline and gasoil prices, despite the recent sharp falls in crude markets, owing to regulations enforced in the run-up to elections in the country, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora said November 25. India imposes a moratorium on the introduction of policies which could be seen to influence voters after an election date has been announced. The country's electoral commission recently announced polling schedules for several Indian states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
