Iraq opens 10,000 b/d refinery in southern Qadisiyah, plans to double capacity

Amman, Jordan-Iraqi Oil Minister Hussein al-Shahristani inaugurated November 16 a 10,000 b/d refinery in the southern province of Qadisiyah designed to meet local demand for refined products, the oil ministry said. The ministry quoted Shahristani as saying a second unit would be added to the refinery early next year to double capacity to 20,000 b/d. "The ministry is striving constantly to increase oil production and develop the Iraqi oil industry, in addition to raising exports," Shahristani was quoted as telling reporters at the ceremony.
