London-The European Commission approved December 19 the acquisition of Russian oil producer Russneft by the UK's Channel Islands-based En+ Group, a subsidiary of Russian holding company Basic Element, under a simplified merger review procedure. Basic Element, a holding company owned by Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, is reportedly seeking a 75% stake in Russneft. Swiss oil trader Glencore, one of the main creditors of Russneft, expects to acquire the remaining 25%.
