Statoil begins drilling at North Sea Biotitt block

London—Norwegian oil and gas major Statoil started December 28 the drilling of exploration well 16/4-4 in the North Sea Biotitt prospect. The well is one of four that the West Epsilon rig, owned by Norwegian company Seadrill, will drill for Statoil. “The rig has now begun drilling the first well on the Biotitt prospect, southwest in block 16/4 in production license 339, awarded in 2004,” Statoil said in a statement. The prospect lies northeast of the Sleipner West field and Statoil is the operator with a 70% stake. ExxonMobil holds the remaining 30%.
