Washington—The US Senate passed a wide-ranging energy bill late June 21 that sponsors say will slash US oil consumption by at least 2.5 million b/d in the next decade by increasing vehicle fuel economy standards for the first time in over 20 years and by significantly boosting the amount of renewable energy required to be blended into the nation’s fuel supply.
