W&T Offshore to buy Kerr-McGee's Gulf shelf properties

New York-Acquisitive Gulf of Mexico E&P independent W&T Offshore emerged late Jan 23 as the buyer of Kerr-McGee's entire Gulf shelf portfolio for 1.34-bil in cash and about 135-mil in assumed discounted abandonment liabilities.The deal nearly doubles the size of W&T and brings to a close the massive 5-bil asset sale program launched by Kerr-McGee last spring to fend off raider Carl Icahn and turn the once integrated major into a recapitalized E&P "pure play" focused on Rockies natural gas.
