The Canadian province of Alberta has a record of political dynasties that would not seem out of place in some of the world's most despotic regimes.It's not that democracy has been bypassed by the 3.5 million residents, but the past 71 years have seen only two political parties in power: from 1935 to 1971 the now-defunct Social Credit movement ran the show under only three leaders; since 1971 the Conservatives have ruled the roost, again under three leaders.
