Shareholders gave swift and emphatic approval Oct 18 to the US4.18-bil sale of PetroKazakhstan to China National Petroleum Corp,ignoring attempts to undo the transaction from Kazakhstan,Russia and India.The same quick resolution was not forthcoming from the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench,where a hearing stretched into the evening Oct 18 on an argument by Russia's Lukoil claiming right of first refusal on Turgai Petroleum,co-owned with PetroKazakhstan and a source of about 62,000 b/d of production in Kazakhstan's Kumkol oilfield.
