The Norwegian state's mediator began arbitration June 20 between the trade union for managers and supervisors and the Oil Industry Association with the aim of avoiding a strike at offshore oilfields that could cut nearly 1-mil b/d of the nation's production.The Managers and Supervisors'Union has decided 500 members at Statoil will begin a strike June 22 if the arbitration fails.The state's mediator has until June 21 but he can continue beyond the deadline if the parties are moving toward a compromise.The mediator will put forward his own proposal for a new salary level if he sees the potential for a resolution.
