In twist,US arm of Israel's Alon sees profits in California asphalt

New York-US independent refiner Alon USA has taken a contrarian view of the US asphalt market,making plans for expansion while others are cutting output.The Israeli-based company plans to triple capacity at its 100,000 tons/yr asphalt blending facility in Bakersfield,California,and expand asphalt operations at its 70,000 b/d Big Spring,Texas,refinery.Alon also has bid on asphalt terminals but,because of high asking prices,it may instead build one,according to CEO Jeff Morris.
