Gasoline: Refiner buying gives CARBOB a lift

Los Angeles CARBOB cash differentials strengthened 1 cent/gal Tuesday, as a couple major refiners turned to the prompt market for supplies, industry sources said. In the morning, Los Angeles CARBOB traded up to the NYMEX December RBOB contract plus 10 cents/gal, with Chevron and Cono-coPhillips heard buying barrels. Later, the market was offered down to the NYMEX plus 9.5 cents/gal before end of the Platts Market on Close assessment process. A Chevron spokesman said that it would be flaring at its 260,000 b/d refinery in El Segundo, California, in association with planned turnaround activity on the hydrocrack-er complex.
