ExxonMobil's Japanese refining arm TonenGeneral has restarted a 92,000 b/d fluid catalytic cracker at its 335,000 b/d Kawasaki refinery in Tokyo Bay after fixing a glitch, a company official said August 4. The refiner was forced to shut the 92,000 b/d FCC July 31 after finding oil leakage in a pipeline, the official said. The FCC can produce 545,000 mt/year of propylene, a large portion of which is sold to Mitsubishi Chemical. On July 31 Mitsubishi Chemical bought a prompt 1,500 mt propylene cargo in the open market. Industry sources have linked the purchase to reduced propylene supply from TonenGeneral. TonenGeneral also operates the 170,000 b/d Wakayama refinery and 156,000 b/d Sakai refinery in western Japan.
