New York-The trampling of unleaded gasoline prices and a seasonal uptick in low sulfur residual fuel demand in the northeast US has set the barrel topsy-turvy,with the"top"of the distillation order below the"bottom."While gasoline prices have occasionally tumbled below low sulfur residual fuel oil,it is rare for that to happen for an extended period,and refining sources anticipate prices will shortly return to normal.Unleaded 87 octane barges in New York Harbor fell below 0.3% sulfur high-pour resid on November 17,and have lingered there since,according to Platts data.That was the first time the spread flipped since a few days during July and August.The last time there was an extended period in"which low sulfur resid was over gasoline was October 2005.
