Fresh wave of violence looms in Niger Delta

Lagos—The threat of fresh violence in the Niger Delta moved a step closer December 17 as Nigeria's main militant organization gave its support to other groups protesting the jailing of a former governor of Delta State. The Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta expressed its backing for plans by some militia groups to attack Nigerian oil installations in protest against the ongoing trial of James Ibori for corruption and money laundering.
