Japan to study use of ETBE-Mended gasolines:PAJ

Tofcyo-The Petroleum Association of Japan is planning to send a delegation to Europe next month to study the use of ETBE-blended gasoline,a spokesman for the domestic refiner group said March 17.ETBE(ethyl tertiary butyl ether)is an oxygenate that is blended with gasoline to make it burn more cleanly and thus improve air quality.ETBE,produced by mixing ethanol and isobutylene,eliminates many of the historial impediments to the greater use of ethanol such as increased gasoline volatility.ETBE can be added to gasoline at the refinery,unlike ethanol,which is blended at the point of sale.
