Lagos-Shell Petroleum Development Co Ltd faces the prospect of a total shutdown of its production facilities in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria if it goes ahead with a planned restructuring of its operations designed to reduce costs and involving job cuts,union officials said.Members of the company's branches of the white-collar Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian Union of Petroleum(Pengassan)and the blue-collar Natural Gas Workers(Nupeng)in Lagos and Port Harcourt staged a two-day warning strike June 21-22,holding placards protesting the planned reorganization which they said could undermine the career progression of Nigerians employed by Shell.
