Mills file antidumping suit against Chinese flat products

After months of speculation, US mills have now filed anti-dumping and countervailing duty petitionsagainst imports of Chinese flat-rolled stainless steel. Neither the US Commerce Department nor the USInternational Trade Commission –which would investigate such a claim– have yet announced whetherthey will do so. Expectations are that an announcement should be made by April. Until there is someclarity in the market as to the outcome of any possible investigation, there will be a marked reluctance toimport any Chinese material, even if market activity improves.
