Bare fibre imports are lowest since the beginning of 2009

China's bare fibre imports for the last quarter of 2013 and for January 2014 totalled US$60 million. This is the lowest consecutive four-month total since the end of 2008 and January 2009, when China announced plans to build out its 3G networks. Fibre imports approached half a billion dollars in 2009 as China's domestic cable industry ramped up production to meet demand. Imports fell below US$300 million in 2011, but rebounded to US$431 million in 2012 when demand spiked.
