Fibre Optic Cable -- Europe/Eastern and Central Europe set blistering pace in H1 08, up 45 percent over 2007

Although shipments are up by 20 percent to 30 percent in several large W. European markets, the greatest first half gains are in Eastern and Central Europe, where cable demand jumped from 3.2 million cabled fibre-km in H1 07 to 4.7 million in H1 08. At this level, the Eastern & Central European market segment is 41 percent of the European total. Some of the fibre cabled in Western Europe is exported to Eastern Europe, but we also have noted that the cable makers in Poland and Russia have seen substantial increases in production quantities.
