Our January ferrosilicon price assessment of ?1,115/t, DDP, stands a considerable ?40/t above last month's average evaluation of spot transactions in the European market. Most of this advance was made in the latter stages of December and very early Janurary, as the assertive securing of first quarter contracts by buyers revealed a slightly tighter supply/demand balance than has been in place in recent months.
