China's 2011 optical cable demand was 88.5 million fibre-km, and three carriers, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom, together accounted for 74.3 million or 84% of the country's total. This means that the three giant Chinese companies together purchased and installed more optical cable than all the network operators in Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and North America combined.
