India: trade measures come into focus as imports spike

CRU estimates Indian demand for aluminium rolled products grew 5.9% y-o-y in 2015, to 502,000 tonnes in 2015. Foil packaging and consumer durable segments are key demand centres for aluminium rolled products in India. Aseptic packaging has been a strong growth segment for aluminium foils in 2015, where much plastic was substituted to aluminium foils. One of the prime reasons for this shift was the narrowing of price differential between the two, while others being design flexibility and consumer preferences.
