The effects of China's Operation Green Fence continue to be felt in the domestic US scrap market. Total exports of US aluminium scrap were down by 10.6% y-t-d through April, mostly on the back of reduced volumes to China. Exports of aluminium scrap from the US to China continued to decline in April, dropping by 11.5% y-o-y to 79,700t. This low a monthly export level has not been seen since February 2009. For the year, aluminium scrap exports to China are down 18% y-t-d. In addition, the share of total aluminium scrap exports from the US that is accounted for by China has declined.
