We estimate that world fibre shipments in Q2 06 were 26.8 mfkm. This is 3.6 mfkm higher than Q1 06, and 2.0 mfkm higher than the Q2 06 estimate in the last issue. The main reason for making this upwards adjustment is stronger activity in China, but we have also raised US fibre production for Q2 06 to 7.7 mfkm (50 percent higher than in Q2 05). Chinese fibre production has ramped upwards during H1 06, as a result of very strong demand in China for fibre optic cable, though it is expected that there will be a slowdown later in 2006.
