Pirelli Broadband Solutions, a new company within the Pirelli group set up to combine broadband access technology and photonics, announced that it will launch two products from its photonics portfolio. They are the "CityS CWDM" an 8/16-cliannel, carrier-class platform providing nigh-bandwidth managed sendees over a single fibre pair, and the "DTL C13 Series", which offers a continuous wave external cavity laser for advanced DWDM optical network systems. Verizon has said that the recently passed cable-franchising bill in Texas will speed up its rollout of video services on its "FiOS" fibre to the premises (FTTP) network, and could prompt further fibre buildouts in the State. The carrier has yet to clarify either when it will offer video over existing FiOS networks, or what the cost of such provision will be. VSNL has completed the purchase of Tata Power Broadband Company (TBPC), the broadband subsidiary of Tata Power, for a sum of Rs2.39bn In FY04, its first full year of commercial operations, TBPC generated a total revenue of Rs31 Ibn and also reported a profit. In FY05, when it became a subsidiary of Tata Power, turnover was Rs466m, while net profit was Rsl07.1m.
