In Q3 05 world fibre demand was 18.2 mfkm, significantly stronger than Q2, and also higher than Q1 - in fact, Q3 05 was the best quarter since 2001. There was an improvement in demand for most regions, with North America and Rest of the World showing the greatest gains over Q2. The North American market rebounded significantly during Q3. Fibre demand grew by 9 percent over Q2 05 and by 18 percent compared to Q3 04. Fibre production also showed growth, expanding by 6 percent over Q2 and 20 percent y-o-y. Fibre optic cable demand in all three countries of the region grew. By now it may sound like a broken record, but the US market is still singing the Verizon song - and it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Verizon ordering picked up significantly during Q3 05, after contracting during Q2 in an effort to work off excessive inventory that has been built up. In addition, projects at the other RBOCs, independent telcos and municipalities increased during Q3 05. All this made for a good third quarter.
