Fibre Optic Cable--North America/Canada and Mexico take a small step forward

Cable installations in Canada and Mexico totalled 2.5 million fibre-km in 2007, up 2 percent from 2.4 million in 2006. Canada drove this growth, with a 9 percent increase, largely due to CATV and local telecom access network upgrades. Demand in Mexico dropped 7 percent, but we believe that both markets will have increasing commitments to fibre for upgrading access network capacity in the coming years.
